The Experience Design Academy is the unit within POLI.design dedicated to user experience. POLI.design is a consortium founded by the Politecnico di Milano in 1999, which, together with the School of Design and the Department of Design, forms the Politecnico’s Design System – one of the most renowned in the world. Our faculty brings together PoliMi researchers and professors with industry professionals: theory and practice come together in the classroom, rather than remaining separate.
Experience Design Academy operates on three fronts. The first is training: a Specialising Master, Executive Courses and intensive courses on UX, UI, UX Writing, Figma and Design Systems – either from our catalogue or tailored to companies’ needs. The second is coaching: we support organisations wishing to integrate human-centred methods into their way of working, with programmes built around their business objectives. The third is applied research: we explore cutting-edge topics related to the experience of products and services, ranging from cultural to applied aspects – through initiatives such as UX Talks or the annual survey on the state of UX in Italy.
It depends on where you are and where you want to go. The programme is structured across three levels.
The Master’s in User Experience Psychology (480 hours, 100% in-person in Milan) is the most comprehensive course: it combines design and cognitive psychology, includes a work placement, and is designed for those who want to make UX their main career.
The Executive Courses – User Experience Design and User Interface Design – are 88 hours each, delivered in a hybrid format (half online, half in-person), spread over 11 days. They are designed for working professionals who wish to specialise without interrupting their careers.
The Intensive Courses – Design System and Figma Design – are short, practical programmes designed for corporate teams needing to update their tools and methods quickly.
Finally, there is the UX Writing Course, 8 hours 100% online, which can be taken at your own pace whenever you wish.
There is no single profile, and this is one of the strengths of our courses. In the classroom, you’ll find recent graduates looking to enter the world of UX with a solid foundation, mid-to-senior professionals from backgrounds in design, marketing, development or communications seeking to specialise, and company employees sent on training by their teams. What they have in common is the desire to put the user at the centre of their work – and the realisation that doing this well requires a methodical approach, not just intuition. The diversity of profiles in the classroom is an integral part of the experience: you learn from your peers as well as from the tutors.
There are three main options. You can enrol your employees on our standard courses to develop skills they can put into practice straight away. You can commission a bespoke training programme, designed in collaboration with us based on your team’s needs and your objectives. You can also involve us as a research partner or incorporate real-world case studies into our programmes, helping to train the next generation of designers. In all cases, the first step is a conversation: get in touch.
